Udupi: Seven children of Milagres Cathedral, Kallianpur received the Sacrament of Eucharist, Holy communion for the first time in their life on Sunday, 23rd October, 2016.

The Eucharistic Mass was concelebrated by Very Rev Fr. Stany B. Lobo, Rector of Milagres Cathedral, Rev Fr. Alexander Lewis, Parish Priest of Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Kanajar, Rev Fr. Herald Mathias, Superior of Pilar Fathers Minor Seminary, Rev Fr. Prakash Anil Castalino and Rev Fr. Rolwin Aranha, Assistant parish priest of the Cathedral.

During the homily, Fr. Stany interacted with the first Holy Communion children and need to have the Holy Communion Sacrament.

At the end of the mass, Fr. Stany blessed the rosaries and distributed to all the seven children who received the Holy Communion.

Along with the Sacrament of Baptism, First Holy Communion is one of our three sacraments of initiation. It is through these sacraments of initiation that we become full members of the Church. We receive the Holy Eucharist for the first time during the first Holy Communion. The Holy Eucharist refers to Christ’s body, blood, soul and divinity that are truly present in the consecrated host and wine, not called the Body and Blood of Christ on the altar. For us Catholics, there is nothing greater than to receive Jesus, truly present in the Eucharist at Mass.

First Holy Communion is considered one of the holiest and most important occasions in a Roman Catholic person’s life. It is the first that a person receives the Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist, which is the eating of consecrated bread and drinking of consecrated wine. Most Catholic children receive their First Holy Communion when they are 8 to 10 years old as this is considered.
