Sharada Utsava concluded with immersion of Durga at Suvarna River Kallianpur

Udupi: Sri Lakshmi Venkatesh Temple, Puttur as usual organized a grand Sharada Utsava, Santhekatte, Kallianpur here on Tuesday, 11th October, 2016.

The procession started from LVT Temple Puttur to Swarna river at Santhekatte, Kallianpur. The idol was decorated with flowers where large number of devotees were present during the procession from LVT, Puttur to Kallianpur river side for the immersion.

Goddess Durga is considered to be Lord Shiva’s wife Parvathi’s avatar and thus mother of Lord Ganesh and his brother Kartikeyan. The tenth day of the Durga Puja festival is also called Dashami, it is believed that Goddess Durga gained victory over Demon and thus restores the balance on the earth. It is also called Vijayadashami on this day, Goddess Durga is worshipped and offered many things as she is prepared to leave.

Highly enthusiastic devotees gather at LVT, Puttur in large numbers to join the procession. The immersion of the idol is similar to the immersion of the Ganesha idol during Ganesh Chaturthi.
