Shri Charandas Mallya Honoured with the Title ‘ Sangeet Mah

Mangaluru: International Music Day was celebrated by Sumell, at the 190th Monthly Theatre Programme, at Kalaangann, on Sun., Oct. 1, 2017.

 

 

 

 

Accomplished music maestro – Shri Charandas Mallya was honoured by Sumell and Mandd Sobhann and bestowed with the title of ‘Sangeet Mahan’. Charandas Mallya, introduced the ‘nite’ form of music to Mangalore (Ashok-Charan Nite); has provided music for a number of Tulu, Konkani and Kannada plays; has the distinction of having composed music for Kannada, Tulu and Konkani films; and also has arranged music for numerous Konkani albums. Shri Louis Pinto, President, Mandd Sobhann; Shri Eric Ozario, Shri Sunil Monteiro, Smt. Kavita George and Smt. Irine Rebello, Director, Convenor, Treasurer and Secretary of Sumell, respectively, honoured Shri Charandas Mallya with a citation, shawl, fruits and a garland.

Charandas Mallya expressed his gratitude to Sumell & Mandd Sobhann for having recognised his contribution to music and for honouring him with the title of ‘Sangeet Mahan’.

‘Sumell’ and ‘Blue Angels’ presented choral singing on the occasion. Instrumental music was presented by talented young artistes – Reuben Machado (flute/harmonica-guitar), Kenny Pereira (saxophone), Samarth Shenoy (flute-fusion) & Oshin Theodore (harmonica-guitar).

The audience witnessed a rare musical treat.
