Smuggler who escaped from Mangaluru Airport arrested

Mangaluru: In a good move by police, a 35-year-old resident of Kozhikode in Kerala, who had allegedly escaped from security personnel at the Mangaluru International Airport after they caught him for illegal possession of cannabis on Friday, was arrested near the railway station.

Mohammed Haneef came to the airport in the evening to catch a flight to Doha. Following a search of the baggage, security personnel allegedly seized 4.5 kg of cannabis concealed in a bag carried by Haneef. As baggage of other passengers was being checked, Haneef managed to escape.

He has been produced in court and remanded in judicial custody for further investigation.
