Srinivas Group of Colleges celebrates Graduation, College, Founder's Day

Mangaluru: Srinivas Group of Colleges which is celebrating its 30th year of establishment, celebrated its Graduation Day, and College Day and Founder’s Day.

A Shama Rao Foundation, here, was established in 1988 with avowed aim of imparting education which could mould the character of the students and make them responsible citizens of the country. It was the firm belief of the founder Adka Shama Rao that education is the tool to transform society. Today the foundation sponsors a plethora of educational institutions imparting education in technology, medical sciences, dental sciences, hotel management, hospitality sciences, pharmacy, business management, nursing and education.

The foundation is ably led by CA A Raghavendra Rao and Dr A Srinivas Rao.

The Graduation Day was held on February 13 at Valachil campus.

Dr Ramesh Unnikrishnan, regional officer and director, All India Council of Technical Education, South West Regional Office, Bengaluru in his inaugural address said that education is the tool for a country’s development. He also briefed about the current education scenario of India. He told about the supremacy of Indian education in the ancient times, he advised the young graduates to take oath in their heart to contribute to the society by encouraging people to get educated. He appealed the young graduates to be proud of their institutes from where they have been graduated and be associated with them.

Naganagouda S J, AVP, head, Human Resources, Global Edge Software Limited, Bengaluru was the chief guest of the programme. In his address he asked the graduates to be grateful to their parents for their sacrifice, love, affection shown on them. He said that the graduates are now ready mentally, physically, intellectually to solve the problems of the society. India is a country of abundance, but the challenge is to build the knowledge among the people of the society. People around the globe had once come to India to get the best education in the world. There is volatility, uncertainty and complexity all over. Technology is a means to solve the problem of the society. He appealed the young graduates to prepare themselves with leadership qualities, attitude and performance and this to be reflected in their profession. He
also said that the students need to have passion, patience, perseverance, pace, clarity in life, service is more important than success in life, power and passion is within our self and we need to believe in ourselves.

CA A Raghavendra Rao, chancellor, Srinivas University, Mangaluru and president, A Shama Rao Foundation’s, Mangaluru, presided over the function. He, in his presidential address, highlighted that the graduates have a long way to go; they need to be humble with good manners, be the shining star and serve the society.

Graduation certificates were distributed to the young graduates of the group by the dignitaries present on the occasion.

A Vijayalakshmi R Rao, director, Srinivas Group of Colleges, Dr Shrinivasa Mayya D, principal of Srinivas Institute of Technology, convener, Annual Day Celebrations, Dr P Sreeramana Aithal, vice-chancellor, Srinivas University, Dr Anil Kumar, registrar, Srinivas University, Dr Ajay K G, registrar development, Srinivas University, principals of Srinivas Group Colleges, parents and invitees were present on the occasion. Nearly 2500 graduates received their graduation certificates.

Veerappaji B Shivanna, head – campus hiring, Atos Global IT Services Ltd, Mumbai was the chief guest of College Day and Founder’s Day on February 14. In his inaugural address, Veerappaji B Shivanna advised the teaching community to generate curiosity among the students for learning. He highlighted the importance of planning ahead for the future, understand the purpose of life, realize the passion and potential within themselves. He called upon students to do what they love, be the best or be the first or at least be unique in their profession. He called upon students to have hands on experience for better job prospects and said that office automation will actually create more jobs only if people have the required skills and relevant knowledge.

CA A Raghavendra Rao, chancellor of Srinivas University and president of Srinivas Group of Colleges, presided over the function and in his presidential remarks, called upon the students to have the required aptitude, skills based on industrial requirements. He said that the main objective of establishing Srinivas University is to have practical knowledge developed among the students and to focus on continuous research. He advised the teachers to be sincere in their efforts and to gain knowledge so that students respect them. He also congratulated the people who received A Shama Rao Memorial awards, staff and student achievers for their success.

A Shama Rao Memorial award for the outstanding contribution of individual and community development in the field of education, agriculture, employment generation and literary services was given to K Seetharama Rai Savanoor, distinguished philanthropist.

A Shama Rao memorial outstanding teacher award of the year was given to Vasudeva Rao, graduate assistant (high school teacher), Holy Family Girls High School, Bajpe, Mangaluru for his dedicated services as teacher, for his innovative practices in teaching science and mathematics to high school students.

A Shama Rao memorial award for the outstanding achievement in social contribution was received by Ullas Krishna Pai, for his involvement in sharing good conduct and character among children for the last three decades, so that they could became law abiding citizens of India.

Staff members who had completed their PhD, published/ presented papers in international journals and conferences were recognized on the occasion. More than 200 students who excelled in academics and extra curricular activities were awarded during the function. Also, 15 students who studied at Srinivas Group of Colleges and secured ranks in university exams were felicitated with A Shama Rao Foundation gold medals. The annual report of Srinivas University and Srinivas Group of colleges were released on the occasion.

Dr Rajasekhar S, principal, Srinivas College of Physiotherapy and Research Center, Mangaluru paid homage to the founder A Shama Rao. Dr Shrinivasa Mayya D, registrar –evaluation, Srinivas University, read the report of Srinivas Group of colleges. Dr Anil Kumar, registrar, Srinivas University, read the report of Srinivas University. Dr P Sreeramana Aithal, vice chancellor, Srinivas University, announced the names of various student rank holders at university level. Prof Annet Florence, principal, Srinivas College of Hotel Management, Mangaluru rendered the vote of thanks on the occasion.
