St Agnes College inaugurate ATC initiative at Someshwar

Mangaluru: St Agnes College selected Harekala, Munnuru, Someshwara and Ambla Mogaru villages of Someshwar Zilla Panchayath for their ‘Agnes towards Community’ initiative for the current academic year. The initiative was inaugurated at the Mahila Mandal premises in Kuttarpadav on Saturday, July 1.

As part of the programme, the third year students of St Agnes College will visit the villages every week and conduct awareness programmes, clean-up activities, plantation drives as well as try to implement rain water harvesting methods in the selected villages.

The initiative was formally inaugurated by Dakshina Kannada zilla panchayat member from Someshwar zone, Dhanalakshmi Gatty.

She expressed gratitude for selecting her constituency for the initiative, and said, “Initiatives such as Agnes towards Community help in creating awareness, and awakening social responsibility. Students should be service-minded and give back to the community.”

This time around, as part of the programme, students cleaned the campus of a primary school, the anganavadi centres of Kutthar and a primary health centre. They also planted herbal plants in the vicinity.

Roopa R Shetty, president of Munnur Gram Panchayat, Rajesh Uchil, president of Someshwar Gram Panchayat, Dr Sudesh, medical officer of Primary Health Centre, Munnur, and Rakesh, a youth leader were present among others.
