St Aloysius Gonzaga School celebrates annual Sports Meet

Mangaluru: St Aloysius Gonzaga School celebrated its annual sports meet for classes 1-4 on November 14 in connection with Children’s Day celebration, a day considered befitting to highlight the significance of the birthday of the first prime minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru.


The day began by invoking God’s blessings through a prayer song followed by a welcome speech delivered by Sakshi Karkada of class II B. The principal motivated the students with an inspirational speech on Chacha Nehru who dedicated his birthday for the children.

The principal also wished them good luck and instilled in them a spirit of sportsmanship thereby declaring the annual Sports Meet 2016 open. The tiny tots of kindergarten had a wonderful display with colourful pompoms followed by a synchronized mass drill by the students of classes 1-4.

Various athletic events were conducted for students such as 30 mt, 50 mt, 80 mt sprint, potato race and sack race. It was a fun-filled day for students who were bubbling with enthusiasm as they participated in these events. Their joy knew no bounds when they were honoured with medals and certificates. The annual Sports Meet was indeed a joyful and exciting one for the Gonzagaites.

Jacintha D’Costa compered the programme in style. Children were entertained with a scintillating dance by Akshatha,a facilitator of SAGS. Finally students were treated with chocolates on the occasion and they beat the heat with a cool treat of flavoured ice creams.
