Mangaluru: "The world needs technically qualified young people," said Dinah Findlay, one of the dignitaries at the 'International Exchange programme on Technical education' held at St Aloysius Industrial Training Institute on November 7.

In her addressal to the students she said, “There is huge scope for technical workforce worldwide. England has a shortfall in supply of houses due to scarcity of construction workers. India is a country with the highest youth population. If these people get trained in technical work, the scope is immense. The world needs young people like you. Once you become financially independent, remember to return to society too. Help the lesser privileged than you to come up in life.”

The chief guest of the programme was Gopal Gowda recipient of ‘Mand Sobhan Puraskar’ award for his work in preserving tradition. He was felicitated at the programme. He said, “Everyone has hidden talents. When that talent is brought to light, it gets value. A stone will be just an ordinary stone, until a sculptor brings out an idol hidden in it. Do not hide your talents, but identify and make use of them.”

Robert Heuer said, “Development is not possible without technical work. Technical field has a golden ground. Any company needs technical manpower. ITIs are a great way to get skilled and find employment.”

Rosemary said, “If you have a dream, work hard for it. You will have a happier life.”

Director Fr Eric Mathias SJ said, “It is very important to give back to society. The dignitaries from Germany and England are noble hearted people who have been helping the under privileged in many ways. Their presence here gives us a message that we too learn to give back to society. In this institution we encourage unity in diversity. Students from various religions live with harmony and respect with each other. New India is not of one caste, one religion and one language, rather new India is one land, many languages and many religions.”

Vandana proposed the vote of thanks.

Alwyn Menezes conducted the programme. Students presented a colourful cultural programme. After the formal programme, the dignitaries visited various workshops and interacted with staff and students.
