St Philomena P.U.College celebrates Konkani Manyata Divas

The Konkani Manyata Divas celebrates the inclusion of Konkani as an official language in the Eighth Schedule of Indian Constitution. This special day was celebrated at St Philomena P.U.College, Puttur on 20/08/2022.

The programme began by lightning the lamp by the dignitaries.

The Correspondent, Very Rev. Fr Lawrence Mascarenhas said," Konkani is considered as the National Language. It is also seen in the Indian currency". He added that the stalwarts of konkani should always be remembered.

The Chief Guest, Mrs Vatsala Nayak ,Konkani writer said ," Konkani language is an independent language with an independent script". She motivated students to have a strong vision to develop Konkani language and strive hard for the upliftment of the same in the future.

The Campus Director, Rev. Fr Stany Pinto said ,"A person may learn any number of languages. But the mother tongue has its own role and respect in one's life. Konkani language can be said as a language of unity ".

The Principal, Rev. Fr Ashok Rayan Crasta encouraged the students to take part in various Konkani programmes .He said," Love for Konkani language should be nurtured in the heart of each and everyone".

The convenors of Divya Chethana Association - Mr Sandesh John Lobo (Dept of English), Mrs Shilpa Rodrigues( Dept of Mathematics), Ms Joshila Menezes ( Dept of Commerce) Co ordinated the programme .

Joanna Lobo( II PCMB) welcomed the gathering. Clinton ( II SCBA)proposed vote of thanks. Kevin Pinto compered the programme.
