Udupi: There should be immediate need to revamp sport department and would be given overall facelift as the draft for the policy will be ready shortly, said Pramod Madhwaraj, Minister for Fisheries, Sports and Youth Empowerment at Mani pal on Wednesday, 17th August 2016

He was speaking during the meeting of state level sports officials at D. C. office comprising assistant directors, deputy directors and joint directors of the sport's department across the state. He said since three years the policy of the department standstill. We look for the revamp the department with positively.

Prior to 30th September all officials of Udupi, Belagave, Darwad and Kalburgi districts to be called for the meeting and within 15th October 2016 the favourable sport's policy would be materialized and feedback will be collected. He said only two stadiums in the state generate surplus income. The maintenance of the stadiums has been very poor. The basic infrastructures’ has pathetic, cleanness and hygiene not maintained and toilets situations worst.

Udupi, D. K., Hasn and Ballary districts shows surplus in Stadiums. That will be enough to maintenance expenses. The surplus in D. K. district around 40 lakhs while 10 lakhs surplus in Udupi stadium. These stadiums can enough resources for the maintenance. So these two districts should model to other stadiums of the state.

Minister said that the outsourcing of the sport's property should be stopped as the private entities end up making profit without really benefiting the sport's ministry. There would be no maintenance, he alleged.

He said that good nutritious food should be supplied instead sambar and chetney for the sports hostels. There will be steps taken to appoint sufficient coaches and sports officials.

Senior official Aditya Biswas spoke and how sports department can be empowered and gave plenty of ideas and guidance given. He said in China well contained protein foods will be given to athlete’s and other sportsmen. During the deputy commissioner of Ballery, Chitradurga and other districts Bishops had taken plenty of measures to the development of the stadiums, said minister.
