Students of Carmel School shine in chess, swimming competitions

Mangaluru,: Students of Carmel School brought laurels to the school by winning first place in chess championship and bagging medals in swimming competition.

Chess prodigy Arushi D’Silva emerged first place winner of under-9 Chess Championship 2018 organised by Sri Annapoorneshwari Temple, Chikkamagaluru. As many as 50 children took part in the chess championship.

Arushi is a 7-year-old and the daughter of Anand and Rita D’Silva. She is a second standard student and a trainee of the much-acclaimed academy, Derik's Chess School.

Varsha P Shriyan, a class 5 student, bagged eight medals (7 first places, 1 second place) in swimming. In district level swimming competition held at St Aloysius Swimming Pool, Mangaluru, she won first places in 50m freestyle, 4x50m freestyle relay, 4x50m medley relay and backstroke and second place in 50m breast stroke. She also won first places in 50m freestyle, 50m butterfly, 100m freestyle organized by Mangaluru City Corporation under Inter District Swimming Competition 2018.
