Two truck drivers arrested for sand mining

Mangaluru: In a joint operation conducted by police personnel of rural station here and officials of mines and geology department on Wednesday, two truck drivers were arrested. Three trucks loaded with sand were confiscated.

A truck moving with a load of sand towards Udupi was intercepted near Bikarnakatte. The truck was coming from Adyar. Truck driver, Razack from Uppinangady, has been arrested. Assets worth over Rs 10.5 lac were seized in this case.

When a truck carrying sand was stopped at Neermarga, truck driver, identified as Kiran, abandoned the truck and ran away. In this incident, assets worth over Rs 20.6 lac including the truck were seized.

A lorry carrying sand load to Kerala was stopped and its driver, Shivanand (34) from Uppinangady, was arrested. The driver was later handed over to rural police station.
