UPCL build new road in Palimar

Udupi: Adani Owned UPCL, which generates 1,200 MW power at its plant in Yellur village in Udupi District, inaugurated the newly built road in the premises of Palimar Grama Panchayat on Tuesday, June 20.

The road measuring a distance of one km from Nandikuru Durga Parameshwari Temple to Palimar town, which was constructed by Adani UPCL under its CSR programme at a cost of Rs 21.50 lacs was jointly inaugurated by Jeetendra Futrado, president of Palimar gram panchayat and Kishore Alva, joint president of Adani UPCL.

After inaugurating the road, Alva said that Adani UPCL had provided the CSR Grant of Rs 3 crore to Palimar gram panchayat for execution of village development works for a period of three years. "Every year, development works worth Rs one crore shall be taken-up and executed by Adani UPCL based on the works identified and action plan provided by panchayat. The grant to Palimar panchayat was to be effective from the year 2017-18, however based on the panchayat’s request, the company has already taken-up three development works worth Rs 60 lacs in the year 2016-17. The concreting of car-street in Palimar Mahalingeshwara Temple has been completed at a cost of Rs 10 lacs and the flooring work at Garadi in Adve Nandikoor is in contract awarding stage."

Alva further informed that Adani has earmarked CSR fund for village development works and he urged that it should be properly utilised for the benefit of citizens. He requested the president and members of Palimar gram panchayat to submit the action plan for the year 2017-18 at the earliest to enable to take-up the works further.

"In the coming days, UPCL will initiate Social Afforestation Programme by way of plantation in the surrounding villages in the places identified by the panchayats. The company will execute plantation programme under 'Hasiru Grama' programme. The company will also take the responsibility of maintaining these plants. This would be in addition to the fruit bearing saplings that would be distributed to nearly 7000 school students in Udupi District. UPCL under 'Go-Clean' programme, the company has already installed dustbins in the prime locations of Palimar and soon will implement the programme of waste disposal and its management," added Alva.

Thanking Adani UPCL for the road development work, Jeetendra Futrado informed that the long pending demand of villagers for developing the road between Nandikuru temple and Palimar town has come true with the execution of work by Adani. "This new road benefits the residents of Nandikuru to travel to Palimar town, as the existing approach roads from Nandikuru to Palimar has damaged," he said. Responding to the request of Kishore Alva, Futrado told that the action plan for the year 2017-18 will soon be submitted to UPCL company for consideration.
