Udupi: Udupi Zilla Muslim Okkoota opposed the government’s decision to hand over the land and management of District Government Maternity and Children’s Hospital to a private entity, BRS Ventures, on Build Own Operate and Transfer (BOOT) basis under Public Private Participation (PPP) mode.
Addressing media persons at Udupi Press Club, the officials of Udupi district Muslim Okkoota Khatib Abdul Rashid said that the 3.6 acres of prime land was donated to the hospital by the philanthropist Haji Abdulla Saheb who is also the founder of Corporation Bank. In his deed donating the land, Abdulla Saheb made it clear that the land should not be given to any entity other than the government.
He said that since several decades the said hospital has been most useful to large number of maternity women as well as children who gave top most services specially for the poor. The Muslim Okkoota and other Muslim organizations opposed to hand over to any private organization.
The government should not give this particular hospital or its land to any private entity, instead better facilities should be provided at this hospital by the government. For the existence of this hospital the co organizations like Muslim Welfare Association, Jamat-E-Islami Hind, Udupi district, Popular Front of India, Udupi distr., Dava Centre Udupi, Jamiyatul Falah udupi, Muslim Writers Association, S.I.O. Udupi district, Campus Front of India, Udupi dist., Solidarity Youth Movement Udupi district and others will cooperate to the opposed the said proposed project.
During the press meet, Haji Abdulla, Ismail H., Sallauddin Abdulla, Abdula Kasim Barkur, Iqbal Katpady, Haji Abdulla, Shashidher Hemmady and others were present.
