Vanamahotsava marks Forest Day at Milagres Degree College

Mangaluru: Milagres Degree College organized a seven day long forest festival, ‘Vanamahotsava’ on July 25 at the college premises to mark the occasion of 'Forest Day'.

The programme was organized by eco-club in association with National Service Scheme (NSS) to create awareness among students, the significance of mother earth and the need to protect nature by planting more and more plants.

Fr Maxim D’Souza, principal of Milagres High School inaugurated the programme by planting saplings. Addressing the gathering he said that Vanamahotsava should not be just a day’s celebration, instead it must be practised everyday to make earth a better place to live in.

Fr Micheal Santhumayor, principal of the Degree College presided over the programme.

Melwin James D’Souza, coordinator of the eco-club, emphasized the need to celebrate Vanamahotsava and the necessity of having a clean environment. The saplings were distributed among the students to plant on the college grounds.

Nikhil Martis, NSS coordinator, Cassin Rodrigues, the vice principal, staff members and students were present on the occasion. Evon Lyncia Elvas from II BCom hosted the programme.
