Karkala: An attempt made by Srinivas Bhat, the father of priest Niranjan Bhat, the accused in the sensational Bhasker Shetty murder case to hold a Homa in the hall adjacent to his house at Nandalike, where the body of Shetty was reportedly burnt in the Homa Kunda, was foiled after locals gathered hint of the same and informed the police on November 9, Wednesday.

Though Srinivas Bhat tried to convince the police who rushed to the spot that the Homa was being done in view of the deteriorating health of his wife, the police failed to relent and extinguished the fire by pouring water.

Bhat has also been issued a warning by the police against holding such homa in the future.
