New Delhi (NDTV): 52 Aam Aadmi Party legislators, including Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, were detained during a march towards 7 RCR, Prime Minister Narendra Modi's official residence to protest the arrest of party legislator Dinesh Mohaniya.

"If minister violates the law we will arrest them, nobody is above the law. They cannot protest near the PM's residence. We had asked them to protest near Jantar Mantar but they refused," said Joint Commissioner of Police MK Meena.

"They might protest again, so we've kept them under detention," he said.

"Modiji, you have arrested us and kept us in Parliament Street Police Station. We are ready to go to Tihar Jail. But do not stop the work of Delhi," he tweeted.

Mr Mohaniya, the legislator from Sangam Vihar, was arrested yesterday by the Delhi Police in the middle of a press conference in south Delhi for allegedly misbehaving with a group of women who had gone to him to complain about a water crisis.

A Delhi court had also rejected his bail petition and sent him to judicial custody till Monday. He was arrested on charges of causing hurt, criminal intimidation and using word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman, police said.

There has been a running battle between the Centre and the AAP government on a host of issues including appointments and role of police.

AAP has called the charges against Mr Mohaniya fabricated and said the dramatic arrest was a sign that PM Modi was clamping down an 'emergency' in Delhi
