Published On : 29 May 2017

Chandigarh, (IANS) A massive search operation was launched by security forces on Monday in Pathankot district of Punjab following seizure of a suspicious bag that contained three army uniforms.

Punjab Police, army and other security agencies launched the search early on Monday, especially near the Indian Air Force base as well as the army's Mamoon Cantonment in Pathankot, after the bag was found abandoned late Sunday night on Defence Road in the Punjab city.

A Jammu flour mill's name was printed on the bag, police officials said.

Security agencies remained on alert in border districts of Gurdaspur and Pathankot following terrorist attack on the IAF base at Pathankot in January 2016 and the terror attack in Dinanagar town in Gurdaspur district in July 2015.

Both districts lie along India's international border with Pakistan and are also close to Jammu and Kashmir.
