Karnataka Sangha Dubai under the leadership of President Shashidhar Nagarajappa hosted an ‘Environmental Awareness’ meeting of a 23 years old NGO based in Mumbai & Coastal Karnataka named Jayashreekrishna Parisara Premi Samiti today the 7th October, 2023 in the Banquet Hall of Fortune Atrium Hotel, Karama, Dubai wherein Presidents, Executive Members of various Karnataka Association, Businessmen along with the supporter of environmental awareness assembled.
General Secretary of Karnataka Sangha Dubai, Mallikarjuna Gowda welcomed the Guests and introduced the Guests on to the Stage. The Guests included Dharmapal Devadiga, JSKPP Samiti’s past President and President of Vishwa Devadiga Sangha, D.R. Raju, JSKPPS Udupi/Mangalore District Chairman & Ex-President of Karkala Billawa Samaja Seva Sangha, Praveen Kumar Shetty, President of Karnataka NRI Forum UAE & Chairman of Fortune Group of Hotels, Dubai & Dr. Devid Frank Fernandes, MD of Mosaco Shipping & now International Vice President of JSKPPS who were escorted on to the stage by Karnataka Sangha Dubai President Shashidhar Nagarajappa. Vice President Daya Kirodian did the welcome speech.
Dharmapal Devadiga & D.R. Raju were felicitated with shawl by Karnataka Sangha Dubai in the midst of leaders of various associations and businessmen.
Speaking on the occasion Guest Dharmapal Devadiga thanked Karnataka Sangha Dubai for hosting the function, also said he is happy that Dr. Devid Frank Fernandes has been chosen to the International Vice President of JSKPPS and thanked all those people assembled from various multicultural associations in Dubai. He briefed on how the JSKPPS was formed in the year 2000 and what elements made to the formation of this Samiti. When they formed they have put together 29 various Community Organisations and formed this Samiti headed by Jayakrishna Shetty. He then clarified that the name of the organization was given by the then Udupi Pejavar Mutt Swamijee and it has nothing to do with the founder’s name.
Further he said on their initial fight to retain Kudremukh Iron Ore Company Limited which was under the conspiracy of few other companies to close down and the worker’s complained on the threat. So the JSKPPS took up the issue seriously along with the help of the then lawmaker George Fernandes and with the strong support of more than 11,000 people of all walks of life took up a morcha which compelled the then government to change the decision allowing KIOCL to continue operation to another 20 years. This helped those poor workers retain their jobs. He gave many more examples including Nagarjuna Power Project wherein JSKPPS took up initiative on saving some of the projects improving environmental issues boldly, even having the threat of underworld thugs. He then said that the Samiti which started in Mumbai expanded to Karnataka Coastal Districts and now because of the support they received from various organisations and community leaders for their continuous strive to protect the environment; have planned to take the JSKPPS to international level and thus Dr. Devid Frank Fernandes has been chosen. Now the International Samiti headed by Frank will further arrange a meet after deciding on the Team whereby the Team of India will join the next meeting in Dubai for the final formation of the International Samiti.
D.R. Raju who is a businessman, leader, politician and the leader of District JSKPPS also spoke on the occasion. He thanked Karnataka Sangha Dubai, Praveen Shetty, Frank Fernandes and all those who have supported in their effort in forming an international program of JKSPPS here in Dubai. He also mentioned Jaya Suvarna whose support has to be remembered and also the names of Samithi’s founder Thonse Jayakrishna Shetty, President L.V. Amin and General Secretary Mundkur Surendra Salian who are the pillars of the organization.
He added that there were too many obstacles they had to face in various occasions fighting for the environmental issues in maintaining the oppose against the environmental maintenance. He said that there are various businesses which can be opened up in these Districts which is favorable to environmental issues and can be sustained. He promised that the Samiti can support in these issues and can support through Governmental bodies.
Maintaining the coastal areas from landslide and also the highways from landslides are some of the important agenda wherein the Samiti work with the state government to protect the areas and the people of coastal Karnataka thus protecting the environmental. He also said the opening of the International Samiti will enhance and strengthen their agenda towards their current activities.
Praveen Shetty of NRI Forum, spoke on the event and welcomed the Samiti’s effort in opening up an International Branch. He said that there are no such environmental issues in Dubai or UAE because this country takes all such measures seriously to support in whatever issues comes up. This country is number one in the world when environment is concerned. We need to take up this in our Country wherein the government concerned is not bothered to support the NRI’s who are willing to develop their state or region. He complained that he too had faced lot of problems when he wanted to put up Hotels as tourism hubs in our Coastal Karnataka. He added that though the nature is supporting the project our government is not bothered. He explained about the drainage system wherein instead of supporting in filtering, which will improve the plantation, the environmentalist will just stand against the project without understanding. Environmentalist and the government always complain and go against the development instead of going deep into the exploration and take interest in studying the development.
At the end Dr. Devid Frank Fernandes spoke on the event and thanked all the management of JSKPPS for choosing him as the International Vice President of the Samiti. He also thanked the governing bodies of Karnataka Sangha Dubai and all those who attended the meeting. He said that the roots of the JKSPP Samiti in these 23 years have gone deep firmly in the ground and that no storm can uproot them. He said he is happy to be associated with this organization which he has been supporting from long time as they are there for a good cause. He said we can unitedly positively fight for the cause with the support of local members, community organizations locally and then with the international bodies. That is where the concept of having an international branch has emerged. He also stressed that once International organisations are involved then there will be chances for the locals to get job opportunities. Confirming his support in his new role he confined that if we do good the result will be reflecting in our future breed.
On behalf of the audience Harish Sherigar spoke and said that the organization is doing a fantastic job and that we are ready to support the Samiti with whatever they need from the NRI’s. He said that the Samiti should come forward in bringing in the programs in association with the government bodies for the development of our districts, especially in tourism, without any hindrance so that that confidence can be built and developed with our NRI’s.
In the concluding speech Shashidhar Nagarajappa President of Karnataka Sangha Dubai spoke on the event and said that it is nice to see so many people who attended the program and confirmed the support of the Sangha for all these kind of issues of Environmental issues raised by the Samiti. Karnataka Sangha Dubai will always will be joining hands with the Samiti in these Karnataka related programs anytime in the future and all those related issues in the near future.
