Mumbai, January 16: The annual New Year award sponsored by Manipal University, Academy of General Education in joint association with Syndicate bank was conferred to renowned Social worker, “Dr. TMA Pai Foundation -2008” awardee and senior achiever in the field of banking, Mr. John D’silva.

John D’silva is originally hailing from Sanuru village of Karkala Taluk, South Canara district was born on May 16, 1936. Anthony D’silva and Remedia D’silva are his parents. He completed his primary education at St.Joseph Primary school Sanuru and high school at SVT higher elementary school Karkala. Later he came to Mumbai and studied BA, LLB and Scout teacher graduation and resided at Abhyudaya Nagara Housing board Colony. In his school days itself he was active in Scouts and Guides. In 1960 he became the president of Tenent Association and later he established an English Medium Highschool and a co-operative society.

He extended his service as a chief Editor of “Bankers Handbook Harban Banks All India Directory” and president of “Mangalorean Catholic Educational Co-operative Society Ltd and “Pudar Prathishtan Mangalore” and vice president of Christian Chamber of Commerce and Industries, All India Konkani Parishad and Konkani Bhasha Mandal Maharashtra. In a function, organized at Manipal on 14th January, Mr. John D’silva received the Award.

Mr John D’silva has been closely associated with co-operative movement and he was one of the executive managers and first executive president of Abhyudaya Co-operative Bank Ltd., Citizen Credit Co-operative Bank Mumbai, New India Co-operative Bank Mumbai and Model Co-operaive Bank Litd. Mr John D’silva also got “Rachana Udyamasheela Puraskar -2005” from renowned institution from Mangalore.
