Inauguration of 22nd Tulu Parba at the Karnataka Sangha Auditorium

CIVILIZATION LED TO EXTINCTION OF TULU LANGUAGE – DR. VASANT KUMAR

Mumbai, Mar 28: Tulu Parba exhibits the culture, samskara, tradition of Tulunadu. We should pass on Tulu to the next generation by not speaking any other language except Tulu at home. Tulu language is associated with agriculture. Slowly we progressed to see horticulture in place of agriculture, then civilization and now because of civilization we can see Tulu nowhere. We have lost our existence because of WTO. This can be saved by literature. Tulu language lacks royal support-said senior writer Dr Vasant Kumar Perla.

Dr. Vasant Kumar Perla said these words in his presidential address at the 22nd Tuluparba which was organized by Sahitya Balaga Mumbai in association with Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy Mangaluru, Mogaveera vyavasthapaka Mandali, Mumbai, Billawa Association Mumbai and Bunts Association Mumbai.

Two days Tulu Parba which was held at Samarasa Bhavan, Kayyara Kinganna Rai stage of Karnataka Sangha Mumbai was inaugurated by senior writer Erya Laxminarayana Alva by lighting the lamp.

Dr Vasant Kumar Perla released the novel ‘acchibella’ written by H.B.L Rao and ‘pad-dana’ CD sung by Dr, Susheela Upadhyaya. Dayananda Bontra released ‘tingolu dinokulena konde’ calendar of Jayakara D Poojary printed in Tulu script.

Erya Laxminarayana Alva said that Tulu is a mature and strong language. We are slaves of English language. Programmes like Tulu Parba help us to save our language.

Nithyananda D. Kotian – the president of Billawa Association Mumbai welcomed the gathering. H. B. L. Rao – the president of Sahitya Balaga delivered the introductory speech. Petemane Prakash Shetty introduced the guests and presented the programme. S. K. Sundar proposed the vote of thanks.

At the beginning, Ermal Ganesh and group recited Tulu songs. Dr.Sahana Pothi and Ravishankar Acharya presented Tulu-Kannada Yakshagana songs under the management of Jayalakshmi Devadiga. Bhagavathe Jayalakshmi Devadiga read Tulu epics. Musician VeenaShastry, Dr.Sahana Pothi, Vanishri Upadhyaya, Roshan and Harish Bhat presented Shree Bhagavatho of Vishunutunga, Arunabbana Mahabhagavatho, Mandara Ramayana respectively.

Nandalike Balachandra Rao, Vijaya Acharya ucchila, Dr.Sunitha M. Shetty, Narayana Bangera Dombivilie, Devalkunda Bhaskar Shetty, Rathnakar R. Shetty, Renjala Ramadasa Upadhya, T. R. Shetty, Premanatha Suvarna, Dr.Karunakara Shetty –the secretary of Sahitya Balaga Mumbai, members Dr. G. P. Kusuma, Vishwanatha Shetty Pethri, Dr.Poornima Shetty, Sahana Bharadwaj, G. T. Acharya, Dr.Mamatha Rao, Harish Hejamady, Jayalakshmi Udupa, office bearers of the various institutions were present on the occasion.
