President Murmu visits Raj Bhavan Museum of Revolutionaries

President of India Droupadi Murmu visited the Gallery of Revolutionaries created inside the British – era bunker at Maharashtra Raj Bhavan and paid her respects to the revolutionaries on Fri (7 July). Maharashtra Governor Ramesh Bais accompanied the President during the visit.

 The President first visited the section on Tribal Revolutionaries of India. Mentioning that the tribal revolutionaries have made significant contributions to the freedom struggle, she expressed the need to do more research to highlight the work of various tribal revolutionaries.

 The President said that there were many armed revolutions against the British even before the first war of Independence in 1857. She expressed the need to conduct more research about the armed revolutions that had taken place in India much before 1857.

 The President offered floral tributes to the memorial of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj created inside the bunker. The President remarked that students and youths should visit the museum to draw inspiration from the life of revolutionaries of the freedom movement.

 Raj Bhavan Public Relations Officer Umesh Kashikar briefed the President about the pre- Independence and post – Independence history of Raj Bhavan. The President was pleased to note that ‘Utkal Keshari’ Dr Harekrushna Mahatab had served as the Governor of the erstwhile Mumbai State during 1955-56 and had stayed in Maharashtra Raj Bhavan premises during that period.

 The Gallery of Revolutionaries is a tribute to the known and unknown revolutionaries of the Indian Freedom Movement. It was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in June 2022.
