Serra Bengaluru Annual Scripture Quiz 2018

The Serra Club of Bengaluru comprising of a group of lay Catholics promote, foster and encourage vocations to the Priesthood and Consecrated life. They held their 14th Annual Scripture Quiz on Saturday, August 4, 2018 at the Catholic Club, Bangalore, who also co-sponsored the event. 

This year’s theme for the quiz was ‘Evangelization’ and focused on the Gospel according to St. Mark and on St. Paul’s letters 1 and 2 to the Corinthians. A total number of 65 teams from English medium Catholic Schools participated in the elimination written round.

Serran Carrol Beck compered and Bobin John conducted the quiz. The participants studied in advance and were well prepared showing their keen interest in the whole event.

The programme included an introduction to the Serra movement worldwide and a testimony by Fr. Charles Vijay a Redemptorist priest stressed that being a priest or a religious is not just a career choice, but being a priest or a religious sister one can also be a doctor, or a lawyer, or an engineer. Or even a Film Director like him. A second testimony was from Sr. Margarita Diaz from St. Charles Borromeo Convent, Lingarajapuram, who spoke about hearing a teacher's advice to choose a career that will help you make the world a better place, helped her to be a religious sister.

The newly appointed archbishop, His Grace, Peter Machado met with and thrilled the children with his warmth. In his address to them he highlighted the importance of studying the Bible and explained that the Bible is not only a book of prayer but also and inspiration for living life. He then reiterated that those who do not read the Bible do not experience a real, fulfilling life and quoted some examples, which helped to motivate the children. Before leaving he distributed gift folders and certificates to all the participants and each participating school had the opportunity to take group pictures with him. Serran Jessy Almeida thanked the Archbishop for taking time to be with the children and giving them the opportunity to meet with him.

SSLC Group:
1st place - Carmel Convent Girls High School.
1. Liza Naomi 2. Vandana Catherine and 3. Divya Susheela
2nd place - Sacred Hearts High School, Jeevan Bhima Nagar
3rd place - St. Francis High School, Koramangala

ICSE group:
1st Place -Sophia’s High School:
1. Rakshita Aparna, 2. Christal Biju, and 3. Rowena Joseph.
2nd place – St. Charles High School Lingarajapuram
3rd place - St. Francis Xaviers Girls School, Frazer Town.

The event was a resounding success and concluded with the President of the Catholic Club, Mr. Raphael Johnson presenting the prizes and the Rolling Trophies to the winners.
