India declare at 377/5, set NZ 434 runs to win

Kanpur, (PTI) India declared their second innings at 377 for five, forcing the umpires to call for early tea in the the first cricket Test against New Zealand, here today.

India, thus, set a target of 434 runs for New Zealand to win the match and take early lead in the three-Test series.

Rohit Sharma was batting on 68 while Ravindra Jadeja was 50 not out as India played 107.3 overs in their second essay.

For Zealand Mitchell Santner (2/79) and Ish Sodhi (2/99) picked up two wickets apiece.

India 318 and 377 for five in 107.2 overs (Cheteshwar Pujara 78, Murali Vijay 76; Rohit Sharma 68 not out, Ravindra Jadeja 50 not out; Mitchell Santner 2/79, Ish Sodhi 2/99)

New Zealand: 262 all out in 95.5 overs (Kane Williamson 75, Tom Latham 58; Ravindra Jadeja 5/73, Ravichandran Ashwin 4/93).
