Bengaluru (DHNS): State team pockets six gold to clinch overall title Karnataka produced a fine performance on the final day to claim the top spot with six gold medals in the 18th Sub-junior National Rowing championships here at the Ulsoor Lake on Saturday.

In the 19th Challengers Sprint Rowing competition, held alongside the nationals, Engineers topped the tally with four gold medals while Karnataka claimed four silver medals and one bronze.

In the Sub-junior boys single sculls category, G Tarun Krishna Prasad of Karnataka clocked 1:52.60 to beat Tamil Nadu’s Saketh Reddy (1:53.55) and Madhya Pradesh’s Manas Sharma (1:55.34) to clinch the gold.

The Karnataka duo of Arjun R and Swastic Pal (2:10:21) defeated West Bengal’s pair of Mihir Sarkar and Md Rahmat Ali (2:17:38) and Roshan Tambe and Shantanu Patil (2:26.04) of Maharashtra in the U-13 Sub-junior boys double sculls event.

Karnataka also earned the gold in the U-13 Sub-junior girls double sculls, as the pair of Mansi Ravi and Komala S M (2:30:32) reached the finishing line ahead of West Bengal’s Kaushani Sadhukhan and Urja Malani (2:39.00) and Tamil Nadu’s team of Saena C Lal and Tarishi Gupta (2:43.81).

In the sub-junior girls double sculls, Karnataka’s Josna R and Manasa S M finished first while Assam’s Hansita Sarmah and Prerna Basant (2:14.07) and Tamil Nadu’s Tulasi S and Sanjana S (2:17.53) settled for second and third position.

In the Sub-junior girls pair event, Karnataka’s duo of Prajna Prakash and Nishitha D (2:01.14) got the better of Maharashtra pair Sonali Tambe and Pranali Tambe (2:20.27) and Kerala’s Athiram M S and Arya P S (2:21.73).

In the Sub-junior girls coxed fours, Karnataka’s Manasa Joshi, P B?Pranaya, K Nithya Devayya and Palak Agarwal (2:03.38) came first, beating Tamil Nadu’s Surabi P, Swesha V, Anushka Dhanda and Srinka R (2:11.95) and the Assam team of Lowalia B Dharali, Sushmita Bhagwati, Anindita M Gogoi and Nistha Baruah (2:26.31).
