'This win will revive Kolkata football'

Published On : 01 Jun 2015

Bengaluru, DHNS : Mohun Bagan’s head coach Sanjoy Sen believed that their I-League triumph will prove to be the catalyst in reviving the fortunes of Kolkata football.

“This win will surely go a long way in reviving Kolkata football, which has seen various lows in the past few years,” said an elated Sen addressing the media conference after his team’s title triumph at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium on Sunday. “Before leaving Kolkata, I had promised to win the league and I am happy I could stand true on my word. This is not just Mohun Bagan’s win, but it’s the victory of Kolkata football. I am sure now you will see Kolkata sides come out stronger.”

Dedicating the title to Bagan supporters, the 54-year-old said the club will use this as a platform to bring back their golden days where winning title was an everyday activity.

“I believe that Mohun Bagan’s golden days are coming. I am sure this title will inspire many to take Kolkata football to the heights it was a few years back and if possible beyond that. I can assure you this is just the start for us,” he stated.

The coach was also all praise for the veteran defender Bello Rasaq, who scored the crucial goal for his side on the night. “Bello is like Chelsea’s John Terry. He has layed every minute for Bagan this season. He has shown his caliber, proving that he is one of the best in the country,” he added.
