CID arrives in Mangaluru to investigate in Qureshi case

Mangaluru: as per the government directive, the criminal investigation department (CID) has taken up case of alleged torture by CCB police on Ahmed Qureshi. A complaint was made by the family of Ahmed Qureshi that city crime branch police had tortured him when he was in their custody resulting in damage to his kidney.

The team began its investigation immediately after its arrival at New Mangalore Port Trust's guest house at Panambur on Friday. The team questioned Qureshi's brother, Nishad. After interrogating a few more people connected with the case, the team will be submitting its report to the government.

City crime branch police had taken Qureshi into custody in connection with murder attempt on Jokatte Prakash Poojary. Popular Front of India had staged a protest and tried to lay siege to the office of the city police commissioner recently, alleging that Qureshi had been tortured by police.
