Mangaluru: A case was registered against Congress leader, Amrit Kadri, in Urwa police station in the city, in connection with his reported assault on Puttarama, an on-duty police constable attached to city (east) traffic police station. Puttarama was checking vehicles at Bijai Battagudde at about 11.30 pm on Saturday when the incident happened.

Reportedly, Amrit was driving his car towards Circuit House when traffic policeman, Puttarama, signalled him to stop. Amrit who stopped the vehicle, is stated to have questioned Puttarama's authority and audacity in stopping a car belonging to a popular leader like him. He also threatened to complain against Puttarama to higher officials.

Amrit caught hold of Puttarama's collar, attacked him, and went away in his car, duly refusing to accept the notice served on him by the police for drunk driving. Urwa police have booked Amrit Kadri under sections 341, 504, 323, and 353 of Indian Penal Code. Further investigation has been undertaken.
