Puttur: After fire began to rage in the black rubber manufacturing unit of Elite Rubber Company at Kanchana in Golithottu, machinery and equipment were gutted. As per an estimate, loss inflicted on the unit is around Rs 80 lac.
Wood cutting, auto controller panel, wood chopper machine, digital scale, small control board, cooling tower, air compressor, electrical control penal, 5 hp pump, and several other equipments bunt down in the fire. Wiring and cement sheets of the unit also were gutted.
The employees of the company who reported for duty in the morning noticed the fire. By then major damage was done. The employees would have faced grave situation if the fire had started during working hours. Luckily, the flames did not spread to manufacturing unit.
Fire brigade personnel from the town reached the spot by 8.30 am and doused the fire. Uppinangady police sub-inspector, Nandakumar, visited the spot along with staff and registered a case.
