Graduation ceremony held at St Joseph's Engineering College

Mangaluru (TOI): The 11th graduation ceremony of St Joseph Engineering College, Vamanjoor held here on Saturday.

The ceremony witnessed the graduation of 610 graduands from six engineering disciplines (computer science, electronics and communication, electrical and elctronics, mechanical, civil, and information science), MBA, MCA, and three MTech disciplines.

Padmashree awardee T K Alex, member, Space Commission and former director of ISRO Satellite Center, Bengaluru and E S Chakravarthy, center head, Tata Consultancy Services, Bengaluru were the guests. Most Rev Aloysius Paul D'Souza, Bishop of Mangaluru Diocese presided over the ceremony.

Chakravarthy called upon students to focus their attention on the purpose of education and life.

T K Alex, presenting the history of Isro, said: "India is second to none. The nation will support your efforts if you have the will to achieve. With hard work, you can achieve your goals." He reminded the graduands that all Indians should take pride in the success of Mangalyaan, India's mission to Mars, and the fact that many of the facilities enjoyed by the common people came from space research such as GPS and telecommunications.

Most Rev Aloysius Paul D'Souza honoured the rank holders and sportspersons of the 2016 batch.
