Mangaluru (TNN): Mangaluru East Police Station Inspector TD Nagaraj was suspended following protests over allegations of assault on a lawyer inside the police station on Friday.
Police Commissioner S Murugan said the inspector has been placed under suspension pending inquiry. He said that according to the police officer the lawyer had allegedly prevented him doing from his duty and assaulted him.
Earlier in the afternoon, chaos prevailed at the station premises after lawyers resorted to a flash protest alleging that a police officer and two constables had assaulted their colleague.
Mangaluru Bar Association President SP Chengappa said: We will withdraw the protest once the FIR has been filed. We also want the two other police personnel, who assaulted the lawyer, Uttam Rai, to be identified and action initiated against them.
Chengappa said Rai had gone to the police station along with his client regarding a case. The Inspector Nagaraj allegedly said he wanted to speak to the client alone, to which the lawyer objected. This led to an altercation following which, Chengappa said Rai was assaulted and put
