Mangaluru (TNN): A person from Kodagu has been duped by a Bengaluru conman of Rs 70 lakh assuring seats in a medical college at Deralakatte here.

According to a complaint lodged by MG Subbaiah from Madikeri at Ullal police station on Wednesday, a person identified as Vikram Kumar from Career Guidance, having office at Bhattarahalli, Old Madras Road, KR Puram, Bengaluru, had assured of getting seats for his two daughters and his friend's daughter at Rs 36 lakh each.

As per the deal, Subbaiah met Vikram at a hotel situated at Kottara Chowki on June 11 and handed over Rs 6 lakh as advance for the three seats at Rs 2 lakh per seat. Later on June 26, the complainant met Vikram at a hotel in Madikeri and where Vikram said that Rs 24 lakh had to be brought in cash and rest of the amount should be given in demand draft in the name of the institute dated June 30. The commission Vikram sought was Rs 1 lakh per student.

As per Vikram's directive, Subbaiah went to the Medical College at Deralakatte on June 29 and handed over rest of the amount to be paid to the college, including the rest of the money required as demand draft. Later Subbaiah and his wife went to tehadministration block where Vikram said the college chairman was busy and took the money and went out. When Subbaiah called his cell after some time, Vikram said he was at a bank getting demand draft. This raised the suspicion of Subbaiah who found out that he had been duped by the accused.
