Mock funeral protest to be held in Bengaluru

Mangauru (TNN): Members of Nagarika Horata Samiti, Jokatte, who are spear-heading the fight against Phase III unit of Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited (MRPL) are planning to take the protest to Bengaluru.

On Friday, Samiti leader Muneer Katipalla said that a mock funeral protest will be held in Bengaluru to shed light on problems faced by those residing near MRPL Phase III unit. The objective is to bring this to the notice of the people's representatives. "People residing at Jokatte and surrounding areas near the MRPL Phase III unit suffer from various health problems due to pollution. This issue has already been brought to the notice of the chief minister by K Abhaychandra Jain, minister for sports and youth empowerment. Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) has served show cause notice to the unit and recommendeded the board to take action," Muneer said.

A mock funeral protest will be held in front of the deputy commissioner's office in Mangaluru and a protest will be held near Vidhana Soudha in Bengaluru, he said, adding that a series of protests will begin after Ramzan. Deputy commissioner A B Ibrahim, in a letter dated June 6, 2015, had asked commissioner for industrial development and director, department of industries and commerce to constitute a committee to resolve the issue between MRPL and local villagers at Jokatte.
