Puttur: In an unfortunate incident, a senior citizen died after a jeep rammed into a truck which had been parked by the roadside near the inspection bungalow at Darbe.
Vedavathi (78), a retired teacher became the victim of this accident. Veadavathi's son, Balakrihna, who works for Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation here and was driving the jeep at the time of the accident, and three children were injured. While Balakrishna, who had suffered serious injuries was shifted to a hospital at Mangaluru, the three children were admitted into a private hospital at Puttur.
The family had been to Venoor to attend a programme organized in the house of Vedavathi's daughter there, it is learnt. The family was returning home after the programme at night when the accident happened. The front portion of the jeep was badly mangled in the accident.
BJP candidate from here, Sanjeeva Matandoor, who was returning home after seeking votes, rushed to the help of the accident victims after witnessing their plight. He arranged for ambulance and transported injured persons in his vehicle.
