Mangaluru (TNN): A Kannada film crew member, who was caught in rough seas at Tannirbavi beach during a shoot session, was rescued by a surf life saver on Thursday.

Rakesh, 22, a resident of Bengaluru, was with the film crew that was shooting a yet to be named Kannada movie at Tannirbavi. Rakesh along with two other crew members ventured into the sea for the shoot of a scene and the waves of rough sea suddenly pulled him towards deep sea.

Surf Life Saver Aneesh Panambur, a trained surf Life saver of Rashtreya Lifesaving Society (RLSSI), succeeded in saving the life of Rakesh. Aneesh swung into action swam bravely to rescue Rakesh. Later Aneesh also gave Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) to save Rakesh, who is a resident of Laggere Bridge, No: 14, 25 Main, 5th Cross, Bengalore - 560085.

Aneesh, a Surf Life Saving trainer and Stoked Surfers Club member, told TOI that he spotted Rakesh screaming for help. "The sea was rough as the pre-monsoon showers was on. I saw a person battling for life on the sea about 25 meters away from the shore. I ran towards the sea with a rescue tube and swam to reach him. I managed to put the rescue tube around his shoulder as soon as I reached close to him. Though strong current was pulling both of us, after several minutes of effort, I could bring him to the shore," Aneesh said adding that Rakesh was in semi-conscious state and was gasping for breath on reaching the shore.

Aneesh said that giving CPR helped Rakesh to come back to normalcy. Aneesh was trained in surf life saving by Dough Hawkins of Surf Life Saving, Australia in March this year. Anish is also a key trainer at Surf Lifesaving - Nippers Programme being held on all Sundays for children at Tannirbavi beach. International swimmer Partha Varanashi is heading the nippers training programme with Niroop G R as coordinator, Anish and Jay Raj as trainers.
