Mangaluru: Mayor Kavitha Sanil has assured that the rent of Town Hall will be revised as per the demand of artistes and the same would be placed before the next Council meeting.

The Mayor addressed a meeting of artistes of different art forms at her chamber on Saturday. She said a committee comprising artistes practising different forms of art would be constituted to find suitable solutions to the several problems faced while presenting programmes at Town Hall.

Speaking on behalf of the artistes Ashok Shetty Sarapady made an appeal to provide concession in rent for those cultural programmes that have free entry and to fix the rent at Rs 10,000 for other programmes where entry is by ticket.

The increase in rent of Town Hall has forced art troupes to rely on temple premises and other auditoriums elsewhere, regretted noted artiste Devadas Kapikad.

Mayor Kavitha said online booking of Town Hall will also be possible within the next 15 days. However, when some expressed reservations, the Mayor said the online booking facility will be introduced on an experimental basis.

Former mayor Mahabala Marla, Standing Committee Chief Sabitha Misquith, Opposition Leader Ganesh Hosabettu, Commissioner Mohammad Nazeer and others were present.
