Two-day national level seminar on 'Food & Human Welfare' to be held on Feb 15, 16

Mangaluru: The Departments of Botany, Chemistry, Microbiology, Physics and Zoology of St Agnes College, here, are organizing DBT, Ministry of Science & Technology, Government of India, New Delhi sponsored (under Star College status), a two-day national level seminar on 'Food & Human Welfare- Future & Beyond'.

This will be held at the college conference hall for college lecturers and students on February 15 and 16.

The aim of the seminar is to create awareness among the teaching and student fraternity about the importance of food, health and human welfare in modern age, to provide a comprehensive overview of current research and a unique opportunity for students to interact and revitalize research attitude and to present scientific posters.

There will be seven sessions on different topics by eminent scientists such as 'Food-borne diseases and their prevention; New Paradigms' by Dr Mukul Das FNASc, FNAAS, FST, CSIR- Indian Institute of Research, Lucknow, 'Traditional Sweets- A functional Approach' by Dr Chethana R, Central Food Technology Research Institute (CFTRI), Mysuru, 'Scenario of Indian Ethnic Fermented Foods and Beverages' by Dr Suresh Kumar, Indian Institute of Food Processing Technology, Tanjavore, 'BT Crops for Food Security' by Dr Vasanth Kumar T, Green Life Science Technologies Ltd, Mysuru, 'Modern trends in Food Toxicology, Food Safety & Food Quality' by Dr Shamshad Begum, University of Agricultural Sciences, Bengaluru, 'Probiotics in Health and Nutrition' by Dr Prathap Kumar Shetty H, Pondicherry University, Puducherry, 'Careers in Food Science' by Dr Reeteka Sud, TIFR- GKVK Campus Bengaluru.

The programme will be inaugurated at 9.30 am by senior scientist, Dr Mukul Das FNASc, FNAAS, FST, CSIR- Indian Institute of Research, Lucknow and he will deliver the keynote address. Sr Dr Jeswina AC principal, St Agnes College will preside over the programme. The valedictory programme will be at 2.30 pm and Dr Prathap Kumar Shetty H, professor and scientist, Pondicherry University, Puducherry will be the chief guest and deliver the valedictory address.
