A B Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences hosts women self defense programme

Mangaluru: The Women’s Forum of A B Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences, a constituent college of Nitte deemed to be university, Deralakatte, organized a ‘Self-defense training programme – Swaraksha for women’ for undergraduate students.

The programme was conducted by martial artiste Karthik S Kateel and his associate Shobhalatha from the ‘Swaraksha for Women Trust’ in the city. The principal and dean, Prof (Dr) U S Krishna Nayak presided over the function. Prof (Dr) Amitha Ramesh, president of Women’s Forum welcomed the gathering and Dr Chethana, joint secretary of the Women’s Forum, briefed about the programme to the audience and introduced the resource person. Prof (Dr) Darshana Devadiga, secretary of Women’s Forum delivered the vote of thanks.

This training session included demonstrations of different situations of assaults and harassments, the awareness to be taken during such situations and the various options to defend oneself using several techniques developed by Karthik S Kateel. It was an innovative step taken by the institution towards the safety and security of the female students and employees.
