International Yoga Day Programme - ST. AGNES COLLEGE, MANGALORE

June 21 is celebrated as International Yoga Day since 2015 with the theme ‘Yoga for Harmony and Peace’ all over India.

Due to lockdown this year, the Department of Collegiate and Technical Education, Mangalore, Karnataka celebrated the International Yoga Day on 21 June, 2020 online. With regard to this celebration, the department organized a live video program on Vijayi Bhava YouTube Channel. The details of this program were announced in the second week of June and the participants were requested to register online on or before 20 June, 2020. More than 300 participants from St Agnes College (Autonomous), Mangalore and more than 1 lakh participants including NSS Volunteers, other students and staff from Karnataka state participated in this program. The main theme of this Programme was ‘Yoga at Home and Yoga with Family’. The program began at 8.20 am on 21 June, 2020.

The dignitaries present for the program were Dr. E.V Ramana Reddy ,IAS ,Additional Chief Secretary, Dept. of Higher Education and Information Technology, Govt. of Karnataka, Mr. Pradeep Prabhakar , IAS , Secretary of Deputy Chief Minister and Commissioner Department of Collegiate Education, Govt. of Karnataka, Mr. Venkatesh Prasad, Former Indian Cricketer, Ms. Madhushri Sandarsh , Certified Yoga Practitioner and Dr. Shobha .

Mr. Pradeep Prabhakar introduced the dignitaries and also welcomed the participants of the program. Dr. E. V. Ramana Reddy inaugurated the program. In his inaugural address, he enlightened the participants on the significance of following traditional practices to improve our immunity, maintain health and to be safe during this pandemic of Covid-19.

The program began with warm up exercises followed by different types of Yoga asanas. The session ended with Sarva Shanti Mantra.

After the entire session Mr. Venkatesh Prasad, requested all the participants to take an oath to continue practicing Yoga everyday in their lives. Ms. Madhushri Sandarsh, in her message emphasized on the 3 important factors i.e. Food, Postures and Mindset that play a vital role in the life of the person practising yoga.

The Program ended at 9: 30 am with the vote of thanks by Mr. Pradeep Prabhakar.
