Bhatkal: In a tragic incident, five persons were killed while more than 15 were injured in an accident involving a tanker and tempo near Honnavar on the evening of Saturday.
The names of the deceased have been given as Kamalakar Bhandary (50) from Baggaon in Kumta, Mohan Mesta (50) from Karki in Honnavar, Simanth Madiwala (38) and her daughter, Sinchana Madiwala (6) from Kumta, and Nagaraj Naik (26) from Honnavar.
After the accident happened at around 6.30 pm at Karki near Honnavar on national highway 66, police were informed. They, with the help of the general public, shifted the injured to Honnavar government hospital where they were provided emergency treatment before being rushed to Manipal for advanced treatment.
