Gulf Medical University Marks World Polio Day

UAE: The students of Gulf Medical University (GMU), Ajman, the leading private medical university in the UAE owned and run by Thumbay Group, marked World Polio Day with a variety of programs on 9thNovember 2015.

Students distributed brochures, demonstrated the issues related to polio and displayed posters and charts to raise polio awareness. They also played games designed to spread polio awareness. Informative presentations detailing the causes, symptoms, nature and precautions of diabetes were also conducted by the students. The event was also attended by the faculty members of GMU.

World Polio Day is observed worldwide on the 24th of October every year, with the aim to achieve a polio-free world. It was established over a decade ago to commemorate the birth of Jonas Salk, who led the first team to develop a vaccine against poliomyelitis.
