Yakshagana is one of the ancient form of folk art that combines dance, music, dialogue, costume, make-up and stage techniques with a unique style and form. It originated in Tulunadu and literally means the song (gana) of the Yaksha (nature spirits). Yakshagana is the scholastic name used for the last 200 years for art forms formerly knows as Kelike, Ata, Bayalata and Dasavatara. Yakshagana was first introduced in Udupi by Madhvacharya’s disciple Naraharitirtha.

With an attempt to keep this ancient folk art live, many likeminded individuals have promoted this in many ways around the world and this has resulted in various forms of Yakshagana at present. A group of artistes ‘Yakshamitraru’ have been promoting and presenting various successful events in Dubai and elsewhere which is well known for their dedication.
