Shiv Sena to hold protest march today

Mumbai, (The Hindu): The Shiv Sena will hit the streets of Mumbai on Saturday to protest against growing inflation and rising rates of petrol and diesel.

The protest march is being held a week after Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut said that his party was contemplating withdrawing from the State government.

The Sena’s move also comes a week before the party’s annual Dussehra rally, where party chief Uddhav Thackeray is expected to announce its position on backing its coalition the Bharatiya Janata Party in the State and Central governments.

While Sena leaders have chosen to stay silent on the issue, political circles are rife with speculation that a chunk of party MLAs are ready to switch their loyalties to the BJP.

On Friday, Ravi Rana, an independent MLA and supporter of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said that around 20 to 22 MLAs and three to four ministers of the Sena are in talks with the BJP.

They are likely to defect to the BJP if the Sena decides to pull out of the government.
