20 injured as Mysuru-Erode bus falls into gorge

Bengaluru, (DHNS): More than 20 people were injured when a private bus travelling from Mysuru to Erode fell into a gorge at the 25th hairpin bend near Thimbam in Sathyamangalam Ghat on late Friday, police said.

The bus, belonging to a private operator, travelling from Mysuru to Erode, fell into the gorge at around 8.30 pm on Friday. Initial reports say the bus had 26 passengers and nearly all of them have sustained injuries. A police official in Sathyamangalam told DH that 18 people were brought with injuries to the government hospital in the town. “All are being treated for injuries in the hospital,” he said. Though there were reports that at least a couple of passengers died in the accident, police said they could not confirm any death.

Since the accident occurred at ghat section at night, information regarding the casualties was not known. At least, 10 ambulances were rushed to the spot which brought 18 people to Sathyamangalam government hospital. Police said, quoting eyewitnesses, that a few injured were taken away in cars to Karnataka.
