Bengaluru: (DHNS):Bucking trend, bigger percentage of boys make it through. Karnataka registered a high pass percentage of 95.45 in the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Class XII examinations this year, whose results were declared on Monday.

Although this was 2.03 per cent lower than that of the previous academic year, a point to note would be the higher number of students who took the exam this year, which may have resulted in the dip of the overall pass percentage in the State.

A total of 9,059 students—5,013 boys and 4,046 girls—took the exams this year, of whom only 4,788 boys and 3,859 girls passed. This was a break from the trend established as the norm for many years now: while 95.51 per cent of the boys passed, that ratio for girls was 95.38 per cent, which was marginally lower.

Last year, of the 4,150 boys and 3,353 girls who appeared for the exam in the State, 4,030 boys and 3,304 girls passed the exam—98.54 per cent and 97.11 per cent, respectively.

Although no student from the State figured in the top seven list of students of the board, there were a number of them from the City who scored very high percentages. T?K?Jeshventh Raja, a science student from Kendriya Vidyalaya, NAL, scored a impressive 489 marks (97.8 per cent) out of the total 500. He scored 99 in Computer Science and Maths, 98 in Physics and Chemistry, and 95 in English.

Jeshventh now wants to pursue an engineering degree, either in Computer Science or Electronics and Communication. “I did not stress too much about the exams, did my homework regularly, and went for tuitions,” he said.

Anusri Menon, from the humanities stream of DPS,?Bangalore North, secured 96.6 per cent in the exams.

She scored a centum in History, 97 in Psychology, 96 in English and 95 each in Economics and Political Science. “I plan on doing developmental studies and pursuing HR (human resources) in future. I've written an exam for IIM-Indore (5-year IPM course), and plan to apply to Delhi University,” she said.

Kunal?Singhania from DPS, Bangalore South, got an overall score of 96.8 per cent in the Commerce stream.
