Belagavi, DHNS: The winter session of the state legislature is likely to be held at the Suvarna Vidhana Soudha (SVS) here for two weeks from the third or last week of November, Assembly Speaker K B Koliwad said on Thursday.

Speaking to reporters at the Suvarna Vidhana Soudha, Koliwad said that the district administration had asked the government to hold the session before December 15, as there could be problems in providing accommodation in hotels, with the marriage season setting in. Hence, the session had been tentatively scheduled from the third or last week of November.

‘Modi not biased’

He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi was treating all states equally in the federal system. Hence, he did not interfere in the Cauvery dispute, as the matter is sub judice.

During the legislature session, one day would be earmarked for discussion on the Mahadayi issue and another day for problems of the North Karnataka region.

A decision regarding the construction of the Legislators’ House to accommodate legislators and officials, at a cost of Rs 200 crore, would be taken soon, the speaker said. Different models were being studied and suggestions had been invited, Koliwad said.

He said that the Suvarna Vidhana Soudha had become a white elephant with Rs 4 crore being spent annually for its maintenance, while the legislature session was held here only for two weeks in a year. Measures would be taken to exploit its tourism potential and allow film shoots there. But the sanctity of the building would be protected, Koliwad said.
