Bengaluru, DHNS: The Home Department is likely to order an independent inquiry into the allegations of bribery against a superintendent of police M?L?Madhura Veena, attached to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and her subordinate staff.

The DGP?(CID)?H?C?Kisho­re Ch­andra submitted an inquiry report to the DG&IGP?Om Prakash recently about Veena and 11 other police officials who include two DySP-rank officers. The officers raided four-star hotel Orchid Ramada on March 3 claiming that a room had been booked by two girls for prostitution. The hotel management, in a complaint to the DGP?(CID), had alleged that the officers raided the room without valid documents and even demanded Rs five lakh, but finally accepted Rs two lakh.

H?C?Kishore Chandra directed DIG?(CID)?Sonia Narang to conduct an inquiry and submit a report. Narang conducted the inquiry based on available evidences and submitted a report to Kishore Chandra who forwarded the same to DG and IGP for further action. “We received the report by DGP?(CID) recently and are verifying it. The accused staff work with the CID and the CID higher-ups have submitted the inquiry report.?We may order a separate inquiry by some other agency for a fair investigation,” Om Prakash told Deccan Herald.

He said that they would consider the nature of the offence, recommendations by the CID higher-ups and evidences available before deciding the nature of disciplinary action. The inquiry report names M L Madhura Veena and 11 of her subordinate staff, he added.

The CID enclosed statements, CCTV footage, bank account details - withdrawal of Rs 2 lakh - and other documents along with the report. The hotel management had claimed that the SP and her team raided room number 306 without a search warrant on the charge of prostitution. The SP threatened to book cases if a bribe of Rs five lakh was not paid. Two DySP rank officers were involved in finalising the deal for Rs two lakh. They collected the money and went away, the management said.
