Bengaluru (DHNS): The department of Primary and Secondary Education will soon offer career counselling to students of government schools.

In the wake of private schools offering students several opportunities that give them exposure to industry requirements, the government has found a need to empower students by offering them career counselling and guidance.

Principal Secretary to Primary and Secondary Education department, Shalini Rajneesh said that that the department was contemplating on offering it to students in the higher primary and high school classes. Private players have also approached the department for collaboration in this regard.

Top sources in the department said that the proposal was in initial stages and the department was looking at roping in private players for this purpose. Lifology Research Foundation, a Tiruvananthapuram-based organisation has expressed interest and made an offer to the department to help students free of cost.

Lifology has offered to provide counselling to every student in government schools between class eight and 12 with priority for students at the pre-university levels.

S S Biradar, in-charge senior teacher of a government school in Bengaluru said, “The implementation of the programme matters most.

Government school children come from varied backgrounds and most of them have little parental support in terms of building a career. The only hope they have is from teachers. Giving them career guidance is positive support,” he said.
