Channaveera Kanavi gets invitation from Mysuru Mayor

Dharawad, (The Hindu): Kanavi said that it was a privilege for him to inaugurate the Dasara. Mr. Kanavi also pressed for his demand to make Kannada as the medium of instruction in schools.

Mysuru Mayor B. L. Bhyrappa and Mysuru Deputy Commissioner D. Randeep visited the residence of poet Channaveera Kanavi at Kalyan Nagar here on Sunday and officially extended the invitation to him to inaugurate the Mysuru Dasara.

An official team led by Mr. Bhyrappa offered the poet a ‘Mysuru peta’, a shawl, fruits and a garland and requested him to open the celebrations on October 1 at 11.40 a.m. Dharwad Deputy Commissioner S.B. Bommanahalli was present. Mr. Kanavi said that it was a privilege for him to inaugurate the Dasara. Mr. Kanavi also pressed for his demand to make Kannada as the medium of instruction in schools. “Mysuru is tagged as the cultural capital of Karnataka and promotion of Kannada and culture should begin from the Dasara festival,” he added. Kanavi will leave for Mysuru on September 28.
