Ballari, (DHNS): A local Congress leader has been booked for reportedly thrashing a doctor on duty at the district hospital.

Farhan Ahmed, the suspect, is the president of Minorities Wing of Ballari City unit of the Congress party. Ahmed's wife Gayatri is the police inspector attached to women police station, Ballari.

In his complaint with Gandhinagar police, Dr D Vinod of Radiology Department stated that Ahmed abused, thrashed and threatened him on February 28 while he was at his chamber attending to patients.

Gayatri, who is expecting a baby, came to the ultrasound scanning section around 11.45 am and wanted to undergo scanning immediately as she had to leave for an investigation of a case. Dr Vinod requested her to come in the afternoon due to prior appointments.

He asked her to wait for a while as she demanded immediate scanning. The doctor requested her not to speak in high pitch as it would affect privacy of other patients."She argued with me and went out. About 15 minutes later, she returned with her husband who abused, thrashed and threatened me," Vinod said in the complaint. He has been booked under various sections of the Indian Penal Code.

The police clarified that the doctor, in his complaint lodged in the noon, had not mentioned the name of the police inspector and her husband. However, he mentioned the names of both in his second statement given to the police.
